As the sustainable technology movement continues to grow, mature and become intrinsic to the business process, the medical technology sector will also be tasked to incorporate sustainable technologies across all of its various sectors, with packaging being a huge target.
 
For primary medical packaging where the requirements exist for sterilization compatibility and sterility maintenance, packaging must comply with ISO 11607-1:2006 “Packaging for Terminally Sterilized Medical Devices” there do, however, exist opportunities to evaluate alternate materials and designs which meet the Sustainable Packaging Coalition’s objectives.
 
 
At the non-primary packaging level, one can really get inventive with pursuing sustainable packaging designs.   Secondary and tertiary packaging designs are focused on providing physical and environmental protection to your medical product.
